Appliance care records: model numbers, parts and service history

Use one record per appliance, append service results, and understand what JSON import preserves before moving to another browser.

Save the full model number, the matching manual and the part number you actually need. Add a short dated note after each cleaning or repair, then export a backup. Next time you can start with what changed instead of looking everything up again.

An appliance identity flows into a record containing the manual, confirmed or unconfirmed parts, allowed care and next date, then into dated task observations and a downloadable backup.
Save identity and instructions once, append the actual outcome, and export a copy you control. View full size

A useful service note takes two sentences

Example: “Oct 16, 2026 — removed and rinsed the dishwasher filter. Light food debris, mesh intact, filter locked on return. Next load came out without grit.”

If the next load is still gritty, write that. Include a new error code or the part replaced, but leave out the routine steps already saved with the manual. A technician’s diagnosis and your observation can both go in the history, labeled so you can tell them apart later.

A shopping link is not a part number

Copy the replacement number and the quantity per change. Mark an unverified retailer suggestion “candidate” until it matches the full appliance model and official parts information. Save both the washable grease-filter number and the disposable carbon-filter number if your hood has them.

Save changes before exporting

In the care-record tool, enter the visit date and result, choose “Append visit to history”, then “Save record on this device”. Appending adds the note to the form; it does not save the record. Choose the saved appliance from the list and “Open selected” to check the stored version.

Choose “Export JSON backup” after saving. It includes all saved care records and is the format the tool can import. “Export CSV” also includes all saved records, but is for reading in a spreadsheet or handing over; the import control does not accept CSV. These records have their own list, separate from My projects.

Restore in another browser without overwriting newer records

Open the care-record tool in the destination browser, choose “Import JSON backup” and select the downloaded file. The import adds records whose IDs are absent and keeps existing records with the same ID. Open an imported appliance and check its model and history.

Import is a merge, not a rollback. If the destination already has the same record ID, importing an older backup will not replace its history. To recover text from that older copy, inspect it in a separate browser profile and copy the needed history into the current record, then save. Keep both backups until the result is checked.

The records stay in this browser. Export again after important edits and keep the downloaded backup with your appliance manuals. Use the JSON file to move records to another browser or device.
